Terms of Service

Effective Date: 7 March 2026

Welcome to the Early American, published on Substack by Rick Laws. By accessing, reading, or subscribing to the Publication, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use or subscribe to the Publication.

1. Description of the Service

The Publication is an independent newsletter and articles distributed via the Substack platform and may include essays, commentary, historical analysis, original research, images, audio, and other content. Some content is free; other content is available only to paid subscribers.

2. Subscriptions and Payments

Paid subscriptions are billed through Substack according to the pricing and billing terms displayed at checkout.

  • Subscription fees are recurring unless canceled.

  • You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Substack account settings.

  • Refunds, if any, are governed by Substack’s payment and refund policies, not by us directly.

We reserve the right to change subscription prices or offerings, but any changes will apply prospectively.

3. Gift Subscriptions

Gift subscriptions are provided through Substack’s gifting features. Gift recipients receive access for the duration specified at purchase. Gift subscriptions are generally non‑refundable once delivered, except as required by law or Substack policy.

4. Intellectual Property

All content published in the Publication—including text, images, audio, and design—is owned by us unless otherwise stated.

You may:

  • Read, download, and share links to content for personal, non‑commercial use.

  • Quote brief excerpts with clear attribution and a link back to the Publication.

You may not:

  • Reproduce, distribute, or republish paid content in full without permission.

  • Use the content for commercial purposes without prior written consent.

  • Circumvent paywalls or subscription controls.

5. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Publication for unlawful purposes.

  • Harass, threaten, or abuse others in comments or replies.

  • Attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours.

  • Interfere with the operation of the Publication or Substack’s platform.

We reserve the right to restrict or revoke access for violations of these Terms.

6. Comments and Community

If comments or replies are enabled, you are responsible for what you post. We reserve the right to moderate, remove, or disable comments at our discretion, including for reasons of civility, relevance, or safety.

7. Accuracy and Editorial Independence

The Publication reflects the author’s research, interpretation, and opinion. While we strive for accuracy, historical interpretation is subject to debate, and errors may occur.

Content is provided for informational and educational purposes only and should not be considered professional legal, financial, or academic advice.

8. Third‑Party Services

The Publication is hosted and distributed by Substack, and your use of the platform is also subject to Substack’s own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for outages, payment processing issues, or platform‑level decisions made by Substack.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the Publication at any time if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that harms the Publication or its community. You may stop using the Publication or cancel your subscription at any time.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Publication or by email. Continued use of the Publication after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
